Brothers and Sisters-
Everyday in the Lord is a joyful day. We should always seek out them who do not know the Lord and that do not share in this joy. The bigger the Body of Christ, the stronger! When one member of Body hurts the whole body hurts. Do not let a day go by with out sharing the Love of Jesus Christ.
I will be having a very evasive and extensive surgery in a couple of weeks and after that it will be a long season that I need to recover following some very restrictive Surgeon's orders.
I will be having the 4 lower disks in the Cervical Spine (neck) fused together; Anterior/posteror Cervical fusion. This has to be from both the front and the back. It will be two surgeries done back-to-back (No pun intended). It will be around 5-7 hours or so. There are some risks involved as with all procedures but if not done the pain and the disks will only worsen and now the that the Spinal Cord is being more and more effected it has to be stopped so it doesn't continue to degenerate. Three disks will be removed and all the bone spurs will be removed and they will decompress the whole area to take pressure off the nerves and the Spinal Cord. They will be using titanium plates and screws on the front and 8 screws and rods on the back-(I think titanium weighs more than bone so I may be an ounce or two heavier :-). They said I should expect to have about 30% percent less movement and mobility in the neck BUT that's better than non at all if Surgery is not done.
I just ask that you pray for whatever your heart may be saying.
God and God only knows what's best for us-We rely on Him and Him only to do the things that He sees best for us. Golfers do wonders with Titanium Golf Clubs so I look forward to what wonders I will be able to do with my titanium neck :-)
I pray that all is a full success and that I will become a stronger worker for the Lord-We can be made stronger in our weaknesses and with or without medical issues we are only expected to do what He lays before us. I have had the best year in my life even though this stuff has been worsening! I look forward to continue on physically when able, but the things I cannot do, I will send my prayers out ahead of me. I do pray that as my neck strengthens that my faith does too.
God Bless you all!-I will be posting as usual up until that time BUT I will have to rest and recuperate and take the road to recovery and I will not be able to spend time on here for several months on here so Have a GoodDay today and a GreatYear here-after!.
Paul
P.s. As the Apostles encouraged one another, I pray we all follow their example. Without encouragement we are left with discouragement. Lets lift each other up rather than push each other down. Allow each other to heed to their calling. Sometimes it seems as another's path takes them places where another's path doesn't and we must all understand that and respect that and encourage them as they encourage us. When others post 100 things and you agree with 99 and disagree with 1-focus on the 99. If you are a newer Christian, don't lose focus of your faith. If you are a more mature Christian, don't lose focus of the newer Christian. The world is a huge Battlefield and we all have work to do!

Paul,
We will keep you in prayer; asking that the Lord give you patience to recover at His speed. Remember during your recovery:
It is ok to be weak because God's strength will carry you through. It is ok to be still because He will reveal purpose for this trial and His Grace will help you endure. It is ok to feel pain because it brings about an understanding of the Lord's sacrifice for our sins when He was on the cross. It is ok to ask for help because He will provide what we need and more.
Be prepared to do His Will; the harvest is growing and rest will come soon enough!

. Paul, I must have overlooked this post. From those I know who have ever had surgery on the spinal column, it is serious stuff. We lift you up in prayer, that God guide the hands of those who will be doing the surgery, as well as giving everyone involved wisdom to make the right decisions, that the Lord be actively involved in all of the entire process to correct that which needs to be done, and that you be restored to full health after surgery and the therapy that follows. . From the What Music are you Listening to? thread: QUOTE It's good to see your humour is still going stong!! This song here is in honour of my neck before I had Surgery~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0a5qxQ-cbMWe have been lifting you up in prayer. Things appear to be well with regard to the elimination of the pain, or is that not so? Could you share with us? I think this is the reason why the Administrators added this Section. .

Thank you brothers and sisters for all the prayers!
The last thing I recall before being put under in preparation for the planned 6-8 hour surgery was my brother in Christ, Steve Piv, praying in the prep room while my mom, a very close friend, the Christian anesthesiologist, a Christian nurse and a few others placed their hands on me and blessed me while God gave the last confirmation that it was going to go well. I was wheeled to another room and within a half-hour I was out and then woke up three hours later. I was alert and was able to talk and was wondering why the surgery was so short. I could feel that they did the surgery in the front of the neck but they didn't go in from the back as previously planned. While I was waiting, the surgeon had told my friends in the waiting room that, much to his surprise, once he started operating, he was able to scrape and cut all the bone and bone spurs without having to operate through the back of the neck. He successfully took out the bottom three cervical disks and cleaned everything up from the front in less than half the time. He was very excited and happy (we all were, too) as according to the last MRI it showed a lot of damage that should have been removed with a double procedure surgery. The posterior surgery is VERY dangerous and the neurosurgeon standing by did not have to assist. With only the front being done I will just have a 3 inch thin scar on the lower front part of the neck and none in the back. God showed us all a miracle! (The night before, we prayed at home, asking for healing, and that there would be at least one Christian assisting in the surgery, amongst other things. I was given water, some of which was rubbed on the back of my neck.) They removed the disks from C7-C4 and put in artificial bone in its place after decompressing the cervical spine. They said my bones were very strong and they were able to add the artificial bone, three plates, 12 screws and then a plate over that. I have to follow strict orders for 6 months to allow the 4 bottom vertebrae to fuse together. It feels as if though I have movement and mobility but may lose about 30% or so but that’s ok.
I was talking immediately afterwards and walking un-assisted the second day and at home on the third day. All the nurses and everyone there were really surprised to see the fast recovery. I have no pain whatsoever in my arms and no numbness or tingling at all! The incision was sore as well as my throat from the tubes they inserted and there was a lot of pain on the vertebrae but for the most part much of that is gone too. I have to wear a Vista Collar when I am up and around. I have another collar for when I shower and another soft one for when I sleep u right in a reclining chair.
My upper back cramps up and I take something for that. I won't really know if all the pain is gone until I am able to take off the collar for good and go to physical therapy for a couple months when the Surgeon feels it's time. I cannot lift over 10 lbs for six months and I cannot lift my arms over my shoulders for few months as well as picking up anything from the ground. They want me to walk for a while each day and yesterday I walked about a mile as well as today. It's not safe to walk alone as I cannot look down or turn my neck at all. I can only drive in a car with another driver and for close, important reasons such as follow up visits, etc...Most likely I will not drive for 2-3 months. Regardless of how good I start to feel its very important that I am very cautious of all I do while I heal. My arm gets tired after being on the phone for 10 minutes or so. Today was the first day I have been able to spend on the computer for longer than 10 minutes. I still need to rest a few times a day. I was put on a liquid diet and quickly moved up to eating whatever I am able to. I do have a bit of difficulty swallowing sometimes and have to have a cup or water to help with that. I will be seeing the surgeon for a follow-up this Thursday and I will bring that up. It's gotten better but I just want to make sure.
Again, thanks for ALL the prayer!
Please continue to keep the recovery process in prayer as I have been giving this all over to HIM for a long time!

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to add that on the day of the surgery, as Paul was finished being prepared for the surgery, we went into the room to see him of to the surgery room. There was a peace and calmness on Paul and on all the nurses as if they knew the Lord was the Surgeon.
And, He was!
As we walked in and greeted all the nurses, each of them were Believers in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! We had a lady from Ethiopia who was so excited to know that we were believers as well.
Before Paul was rolled away, we ALL, Nurses included, laid our hands on Paul and prayed for him. And, we prayed for everyone in that hospital, something I knew Paul would want done. That was very powerful! Praise the Lord!
A few of us got breakfast at the cafe, and were praying for Paul, sharing the Word, I went to use the men's room, and the receptionist says "You just missed the Dr!" I asked if everything was good, she didn't know, so I walked the hallways and ran into the nurse, he said the surgery went AWESOME!
There is more to tell, and I am sure once Paul gets more and more stregnth to type and is cleared to get out, we will hear more.
Thanks for praying for a friend and close brother of mine. My family and I have had the priviledge of getting closer with Paul and he is an exceptional man that Fears God, Loves the Lord, and Loves ALL People!
I thank the Lord for a friend like him.
